Summary

  • Taylor Swift is one of the most prolific musicians of the 21st century.
  • The singer is rumored to have written the screenplay for Matthew Vaughn's Argyle.
  • The movie has a lot of Swift-related Easter eggs.
  • The star of Argyle acknowledges the rumor, but denies Swift's involvement.

Taylor Swift is arguably one of the most famous contemporary singers, with millions of fans around the world. Throughout 2023, the artist made headlines several times with her record-breaking Eras tour, its wildly successful cinematic installment that earned over $260 million at the box office, and her romance with Travis Kelce. But Taylor Swift has also been getting a lot of attention thanks to a strange rumor.

Since the release of the trailer for Argyle in late September, Taylor Swift fans have been speculating that the singer wrote the screenplay for the movie. As ridiculous as it sounds, Swifties have found plenty of evidence to support the claim, making it difficult to dismiss the rumor.

Why Taylor Swift?

Matthew Vaughn's Argyle follows an acclaimed author of spy action novels who meets a real spy while dealing with her writer's block. Naturally, a series of exciting and life-threatening events ensue.

But what does this have to do with Taylor Swift?

Well, the singer's fans believe that Argyle's protagonist, portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard, bears too much resemblance to Taylor Swift in her music video All Too Well, where she also plays a writer.

Also, Claudia Schiffer's iconic cat in a backpack, which also appears in the film, is said to have been inspired by Swift's photos of her own cats, which she sometimes carries in a special backpack. However, the star of the movie has given an unequivocal answer about the artist's involvement in the making of Argyle.

Bryce Dallas Howard on the Rumor

'Let me debunk that right now. Yes, Matthew saw this image [of Taylor carrying her cat in a backpack] and was like, "That needs to be in a movie. Like, this situation needs to be in a movie – a woman on the run with a cat in her backpack,"' Bryce Dallas Howard shared in a recent interview. 'He must have been sort of subconsciously influenced in some way, shape, or form, but he had no idea of this rumor until his daughter ran into his room and was like, "Why didn't you tell me that Taylor Swift wrote Argylle?"'

According to the actress, she herself has been suspicious of the similarities between Taylor Swift's artistry and Argyle from time to time. Fun fact: There are more alleged Easter eggs for the singer in the movie. But Bryce Dallas Howard insists Vaughn's movie has nothing to do with the fan-favorite musician.

'It's really, really, really bizarre, but a huge honor to have any association whatsoever with Taylor Swift,' the Argylle lead added.

Argylle is set to hit theaters today, on 2d February.
