Looks like she did.

Amber Heard has certainly had a diverse acting career, spanning various films and series. Regrettably, though, most of her roles fall into one of two categories.

The first consists of lead roles in critically and commercially unsuccessful films, such as The Joneses (2009) and Drive Angry (2011), along with obscure indie productions such as The River Why (2010). The second category includes well-received films in which Heard played only supporting roles, such as Pineapple Express (2008).

As a result, she's best known to audiences for two things: her role as Mera, the underwater princess and love interest of the protagonist, in the hugely successful Aquaman (2018) and both versions of Justice League, and her brief marriage to Johnny Depp.

The marriage was fleeting, beginning in February 2015 and ending with Heard filing for divorce in May 2016. However, it led to one of Hollywood's most prominent legal dramas when, in December 2018, Heard penned an op-ed for the Washington Post accusing Depp of domestic abuse.

The ensuing defamation lawsuit by Depp and Heard's countersuit culminated in a resounding victory for Depp, both in the court of law and in the court of public opinion. Although Depp ultimately won only $1 million from the lawsuit, this represented two-thirds of Heard's remaining fortune, now estimated to be a mere $500,000.

In these circumstances, it's hardly surprising that now that the ordeal is over, the media are reporting that Heard has decided to leave Hollywood. She sold her expensive Californian home last summer, and the Daily Mail reports that she has since quietly moved to Spain with her two-year-old surrogate daughter, Oonagh. It seems that Heard's fluency in Spanish played a part in her choice of Spain as a refuge from the prying eyes of the press and public.

Her departure won't affect the upcoming Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, as Heard has reprised her role as Mera and the film has already completed shooting and is now in post-production. With the anticipated reboot of the DC cinematic universe, it's uncertain whether Heard will be brought back to play Mera or if the character will be recast.

As such, it remains unclear whether she will ever return to Hollywood. Reportedly, Heard may rethink her decision if the right project comes along at the right time - assuming anyone is willing to offer her a role in the future.
