Dexter Original Sin Is Over: Is It a Must-Watch for Hardcore Fans? (Yes and No)

A retelling of the original series masquerading as a prequel.
The miniseries Dexter: Original Sin has finished on Paramount+. This is a prequel to the original Dexter, which tells about the youth of the future Butcher of Bay Harbor.
The events of the series take place 15 years before the original show, and the viewer gets the opportunity to see the first murders of the future maniac and understand what helped to form his habits.
Dexter: Original Sin Is Not Really a Prequel
The first and most important thing to know about the prequel is that it is not exactly a backstory. The project is a continuation of the miniseries Dexter: New Blood, which officially serves as the ninth season of Dexter.
A badly wounded Morgan ends up in the hospital and his life flashes before his eyes. He remembers his youth, when he took the life of another person for the first time. Thus, the viewer is immersed in 1991, when a new life began in Miami for a young man with strange hobbies.
Original Sin Has Almost Nothing to Offer Hardcore Fans
For all its flaws, New Blood offered viewers much more than Original Sin. There is a new Dark Passenger, Dexter's attempts to curb someone else's thirst for murder, and the aging of the character, which manifests itself in unexpected moments.
But the prequel, despite its many advantages, still follows a familiar path, presenting a more classic Dexter – just 15 years younger.
In ten episodes, the series tells how Dexter acquired all his chips – how he came up with the idea of collecting drops of blood, dismembering corpses and dumping them in the bay, how he came to work for the police.
Dexter: Original Sin's Greatest Achievement Is Its Exploration of Harry Morgan
The crowning achievement of Original Sin is its extensive exploration of Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father, who was dead throughout the main series and only ever appeared in Dexter's imagination, guiding and sometimes condemning his actions.
In Original Sin, the young Harry is played by Christian Slater, not James Remar. The viewer sees not the Harry who was Dexter's moral compass and inner voice of reason, but a real, living person. Full of fear for his children because of his own past mistakes.
