The director of Secret Invasion confirmed this in an interview.

If anything, the MCU's new show Secret Invasion feels more like a spy thriller than a project in the superhero genre. With shape-shifting Skrulls, led by Kingsley Ben-Adir's Gravik, seeking to conquer Earth by creating a major military conflict, the series' paranoia runs high. It is so palpable, in fact, that even fans feel suspicious — not about the premise of the show, but about the safety of their beloved characters.

Secret Invasion already threw many MCU fans for a loop when, in the final moments of the premiere episode, Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill was ruthlessly gunned down by Gravik posing as Nick Fury. Prior to that, Maria seemed to be a promising character, so viewers were taken aback by the creators' decision to kill her, and many are now worried about the future of Fury himself.

Samuel L. Jackson's Fury is one of the oldest MCU characters. Secret Invasion marks his 13th appearance in the universe, and it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect the actor to opt out of the project at this point, just like fellow old-timers Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans did before him.

Fortunately, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Jackson is not done with the franchise just yet.

Secret Invasion director Ali Selim recently confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Fury will appear in Captain Marvel's long-awaited sequel, The Marvels, which is set to hit theaters this November.

When asked about the production process for Secret Invasion and whether he had to reach out to the creative team behind The Marvels to ensure that Fury would be where he needed to be in the finale of his series, Selim answered in the affirmative.

'The answer is yes, but they're not protracted conversations. It's just simply, "Where do you need him? You need him here? Great." And then we write into that,' the director explained.

This means that whatever happens to the master spy in Secret Invasion, he will come out of this story alive and well enough to reunite with Carol Danvers. What a relief!

Secret Invasion Episode 3 is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, July 5.
