Demon Slayer is storming the charts and breathing down Minecraft’s neck, setting up a showdown that could topple the internet’s longest-reigning titan.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is already a monster hit, but it might be gearing up for a second wind. The movie just locked a China release, which has historically been where global totals go from big to massive.

China release locked in

There were whispers for a while that Infinity Castle would make it into Chinese theaters. Not long ago, China was the place Marvel and Avatar titles went to add serious coin, though that pipeline has been a little uneven lately. The clue that things were heating up came when an official Infinity Castle account popped up on Weibo. Now that same account has made it official: the movie opens in China on November 14 (via Screen Rant).

The money math: what this could change

Right now, Infinity Castle sits at about $670 million worldwide, which already makes it the highest-grossing anime movie ever. Cracking $1 billion is still a reach, but here is the twist: the film is staying theatrical-only through the end of 2025. In this market, that kind of long runway is rare, and it gives the movie time to keep stacking weekends, especially if China shows up.

There are a few interesting milestones in play if that happens. The big one: it could overtake the 2D animation record currently held by The Lion King at $979 million. And if Chinese audiences push it hard enough, Infinity Castle could also climb the 2025 leaderboard and pass A Minecraft Movie ($957 million) and Jurassic World: Rebirth ($868 million).

  • China release date: November 14
  • Current worldwide total: about $670 million (highest-grossing anime movie ever)
  • Theatrical exclusive: through the end of 2025
  • 2D animated record to beat: The Lion King at $979 million
  • 2025 titles it could overtake: A Minecraft Movie ($957 million), Jurassic World: Rebirth ($868 million)

Short version: the China launch gives Infinity Castle a real shot at padding its already wild numbers. We will see how much fuel is left in the tank after November 14.
