Definitive Proof Meemaw & TBBT's Penny Are Essentially The Same Person
Okay, they're different people but similar characters.
Even though The Big Bang Theory did not look like a promising series when it premiered on CBS 16 years ago, it turned into a worldwide hit over the years, running for 12 seasons and spawning an equally successful prequel, Young Sheldon, which debuted in 2017.
The main reason behind TBBT's outstanding success is, of course, the show's protagonists: Sheldon, Leonard, and Penny, along with the rest of the gang, have made their way into the history of television. In its turn, Young Sheldon also boasts some great characters, including Sheldon's grandmother Meemaw, who is just unforgettable in every way.
Remarkably, Meemaw and TBBT's Penny seem to have a lot in common, and here are just four traits to prove these two characters are closer than you might think.
They're blunt
While this may be more true for Constance (Sheldon's grandma's real name), both women are uncompromisingly forthright. Meemaw doesn't hesitate to pour out what's on her mind, and Penny is also quite outspoken — especially when it comes to criticizing Sheldon. The two characters are powerful with words and tend to speak straight from the shoulder.
They're ironic
Both women often make fun of other people, and their jokes are simply hilarious. One again, Sheldon is often targeted — however, Meemaw's ironic remarks seem to be milder and somewhat more loving. That's not surprising because Sheldon is her grandson, after all.
They're domineering
When around Connie and Penny, one doesn't need to think twice about who is the boss. In this sense, both characters command Sheldon whenever they lose their temper with him.
They date Sheldon's friend
Both Meemaw and Penny date Sheldon's best friends at different points of his life: Dr. Sturgis in Young Sheldon and Leonard in TBBT, respectively. Naturally, the dynamics between all these characters get pretty weird at times.
We may also theorize that it was Penny's similarity to his grandmother that allowed Sheldon to bond with her in TBBT. In addition, fans point out that Penny has some things in common with the protagonist's other family members from Young Sheldon.

Whether Penny's similarity to Meemaw and other Young Sheldon characters was planned or just a pure coincidence, the character certainly helped Sheldon grow and become a more mature person by the end of TBBT. And she was simply an adorable presence for all fans, just like Meemaw is on Young Sheldon.
