Decades Later, This Surprising Frasier Character Is Still a Fan Favorite
It's upsetting that the reboot doesn't feature this character.
Summary
- Fans are excited about the Frasier revival, but they miss one side character.
- However controversial, that character was beloved by the audience of the original sitcom.
- The reboot's location is the major reason the character is no longer on the show.
It's been almost a month since the Frasier reboot premiered on Paramount+, making this fall a little bit more cheerful. While some viewers don't seem to like the new show finding it inferior to the original, others are very excited about it – especially given that it's one of the few TV releases we have this season due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Just as the original sitcom, the revival of Frasier revolves around the titular character. Now, it follows him in a new stage of his life as he moves back to Boston, where Cheers – the original comedy – was set, to take up professorship at Harvard and mend fences with his estranged son, Freddy. While fans are glad to see their beloved psychiatrist back, they are also upset that some of the original supporting characters won't be making it to the reboot. The lack of this fan-favorite character is particularly depressing.
Bebe Glazer
Bebe made her debut on Frasier in the ninth episode of season 1, when she overheard Dr. Crane's endorsement of a Chinese restaurant and introduced herself to him as a talent agent. She was immediately portrayed as a diabolical, extremely manipulative and wicked person with a complete lack of morals. This description was reiterated by several characters throughout the show's eleven seasons, including Frasier himself, who on several occasions implied that she was the devil.
Despite this unseemly characterization, and the fact that her appearances on the show were sporadic, being completely absent from seasons 6 and 8, Bebe Glazer busked in fan adoration during Frasier's extensive run on the air. Most importantly, she remains the show's most popular supporting character to this day, which is perhaps why viewers are upset that she won't be making a cameo in the sitcom's revival.
Why Isn't Bebe on the New Frasier?
Played by Harriet Sansom Harris whom you might have also seen on Desperate Housewives, Bebe Glazer isn't appearing in the first season of the Frasier reboot. At least, the actress's filmography says nothing of it. And the reason for the character's absence from the revamped sitcom is very logical.
Bebe is a Seattle-based talent agent. And since the Frasier revival is taking place in Boston, she has no business appearing in the city or on the new show.
Perhaps Bebe Glazer will make a cameo appearance in Season 2 of the Frasier revival. But for now, episode 5 of the first season premieres tonight, Thursday, November 2, 2023 on Paramount+.
