Dave Franco’s One Rule for Keeping His 9-Year Marriage to Alison Brie Thriving
Nearing nine years of marriage, Dave Franco hit the Los Angeles premiere of Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers and opened up about the simple secret keeping his relationship with Alison Brie rock solid.
Dave Franco hit the Los Angeles premiere of Disney and Pixar's Hoppers and, on the cusp of nine years married to Alison Brie, gave a low-key, very human answer about why they still work.
Red carpet nerves, nine years in
On the carpet, Franco looked back on who he used to be and did not sugarcoat it.
"Shy," "awkward," and "anxious."
When a red-carpet joke landed about him leveling up his 'game' by ending up with Brie, he smiled it off and got a little reflective with their ninth anniversary around the corner.
"Honestly, I think it's about being friends more than anything else. It's like you've got to want to hang out with this person. This is the person you're going to spend more time with than anyone, so you've got to want to hang with them. You've got to be able to laugh with them. I don't care if someone doesn't think they're funny. You can be funny to the right person. Find that person you can laugh with, and that's so, so important."
Where they are now
Franco and Brie got married in March 2017. They have kept finding ways to work together, too. In 2025, they teamed up on the film Together, playing a couple whose lives — and even bodies — start to overlap. Yes, the premise goes there.
- March 2017: Franco and Brie marry
- 2025: Reunite onscreen in Together as an intensely intertwined couple
- Now: Closing in on nine years of marriage, still preaching friendship and laughter
Nearly a decade in, Franco is not overcomplicating it: stay friends, want to be around each other, and keep laughing. Simple. Also not wrong.
