Dave Chappelle Drops Unannounced Netflix Comedy Special Overnight
Minutes after the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua clash, Dave Chappelle ambushed the night with a surprise Netflix special, dropping exclusively on Netflix and stealing the post-fight spotlight.
Dave Chappelle did the most Dave Chappelle thing possible: he dropped a new Netflix special out of nowhere and timed the release for right after a big boxing match, because why not.
The surprise drop, the timing, the whole move
Right before the Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua fight, Chappelle popped up online to plug a new special called 'The Unstoppable...' and let fans know it would hit Netflix the second the bout was over. If you were keyed up from the fight, he basically handed you a built-in comedown.
'I wanted to shout out my hometown Washington D.C., and thank everybody that came out in October to support me at that show. I just want you to know, that show will be streaming on Netflix tonight. After the fight, my new special drops, and I hope you love it. Thank you very much. Ah chicka chicka.'
Netflix Is A Joke shared the clip on Instagram, but the key detail there is Chappelle confirming the special is built from his October stop in D.C. So yes, the show he was thanking that crowd for is the one you can stream now. The title purposely trails off with the ellipsis, and the vibe is exactly what you think: him staring down the world and trying to bend it into jokes.
What Netflix says it is
Netflix is pitching this as Chappelle taking a swing at a world that feels sideways, delivering blunt truths and big punchlines. In other words: classic Chappelle, but pointed.
Where this fits in his Netflix run
- The Age of Spin (2017)
- Deep in the Heart of Texas (2017)
- Equanimity (Primetime Emmy winner)
- The Bird Revelation
- The Closer (2021)
- The Dreamer (2023)
What he has been up to lately
Chappelle spent 2024 co-headlining the Still Talkin' That Sh*t Tour with Killer Mike. He kicked off 2025 by hosting Saturday Night Live for the fourth time, with GloRilla as the musical guest. He also popped up at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia, sharing the bill with a stacked lineup: Aziz Ansari, Wayne Brady, Hannibal Buress, Bill Burr, Louis C.K., Whitney Cummings, Pete Davidson, Kevin Hart, Jo Koy, Bobby Lee, Jessica Kirson, Jeff Ross, Sugar Sammy, Andrew Schultz, Jack Whitehall, Tom Segura, and more.
And if you are wondering about acting
It has been a minute since he took a film role. His last notable one was Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born, where Chappelle played George 'Noodles' Stone, a retired musician and best friend to Cooper's character, a hard-drinking country star falling for a new singer whose career rockets past his.
If you want fresh Chappelle, 'The Unstoppable...' is streaming now on Netflix. Perfect post-fight, post-day, post-whatever viewing.
