Daniel Radcliffe isn’t queuing up his Harry Potter films for his kid. Years after leading the franchise, he says he’d steer his child toward a different Wizarding World instead — and explains why.

Daniel Radcliffe has made peace with being Harry Potter, but when the day comes for a family watch, he already has a plan: reach for the reboot over the films that made him famous. The reasoning is very him — modest, a little self-protective, and frankly relatable if you have ever cringed at your own time capsule years.

Radcliffe would show his kid the new series instead

"I'll probably show my kid that so that he doesn't have to watch me."

He called the upcoming HBO take on the Wizarding World a more appealing option for parent-and-kid viewing, adding that it sounds more fun for both of them.

"I think that'll be more fun. I would probably enjoy it more."

He rarely rewatches his own work

Radcliffe said the last time he sat through the Potter films start to finish was at their premieres — the big nights in London and the States. Since then, he has only caught scattered moments while channel surfing, never a full sit-down revisit.

"I hate watching myself, generally."

That feeling reaches beyond Hogwarts. He barely checks in on more recent work either — TV and theater included — aside from a few exceptions. It is a broad preference, not a Potter-specific hang-up.

With time, the cringe shifted

His perspective on his younger self has softened as the years stacked up.

"I would like to watch the earlier films more because I'm so much further away from them."

As a teenager, seeing his 10- or 11-year-old self on screen felt rough. These days, he thinks he would be kinder to that kid and more likely to wince at his late-teen performances.

About that HBO reboot

The new series adapts the books by J. K. Rowling, with Dominic McLaughlin set to play Harry Potter. It is targeting an early 2027 premiere and plans an eight-episode first season.
