With Wake Up Dead Man nearing its debut, Rian Johnson teases the future of Netflix’s hit whodunit, signaling fresh momentum for a fourth Daniel Craig Knives Out caper.

Benoit Blanc is barely back on the job and Rian Johnson is already thinking about the next case. Classic.

So, is Knives Out 4 happening?

Johnson told THR he and Daniel Craig have started tossing around ideas for another Benoit Blanc mystery. He sounds fired up after finishing this one and says he still gets a kick out of building a brand-new ensemble around Craig every time. To be crystal clear: this is them talking about what comes next, not an official announcement. But the vibe is very much "keep going."

"I don't know why I would stop doing it if we could keep making them."

Where Wake Up Dead Man stands right now

The third film, 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,' had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and is already sitting at a Certified Fresh 95% on Rotten Tomatoes from 93 reviews. Not a bad way to head into release.

Johnson is once again writing and directing, and he is producing with long-time collaborator Ram Bergman. Since the first movie hit in 2019, this Daniel Craig-led whodunit machine has kept both critics and audiences happy, and the early response suggests that streak continues.

  • Cast: Daniel Craig, Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church

  • Early buzz: world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival; 95% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes from 93 reviews

Bottom line

Johnson feels energized, Craig is game, and the franchise is still cooking. If you like watching Benoit Blanc wade into a fresh batch of suspects every couple of years, the tea leaves look good.
