From darling to scapegoat, she's come a long way.

It's been two months since the release of Sweet Magnolias' third season, but the Netflix show remains a hot topic of discussion among fans. Premiering in 2020, the drama series quickly won over hundreds of thousands of viewers who fell in love with SW's quaint, warm Southern town atmosphere and its portrayal of female friendship.

Over its four-year run, Sweet Magnolias has followed three besties, Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue, from the fictional South Carolina town of Serenity, as they helped each other navigate their professional and personal lives. Naturally, fans couldn't help falling in love with the characters. However, it seems that their adoration for this character didn't last long, as she now seems to be the most hated character on the entire show.

Cloying Sweet

One of the Sweet Magnolias trio, Dana Sue has been the most inspirational character on the show since day one. Her positive demeanor and self-confidence endeared her to many viewers who kept returning to the show for her. Nevertheless, she seems to have fallen out of favor with fans after Season 3.

There are a few reasons for this. First and foremost, Dana Sue is perhaps too sweet for people's tastes. She's always trying to be positive, which can sometimes come off as fake. More importantly, when Dana isn't being sweet – think of her crackdown on Annie in Season 3 – it's just shocking and alienating.

Unstable

Despite Dana Sue's generally mild-mannered personality, which may portray her as a mellow and wise adult, she's actually the least mature member of the Sweet Magnolias trio. Her love life is a mess, in part because she doesn't know what she wants.

While it was pretty, well, sweet to follow during the first two seasons, the recent third installment turned the character into a hot mess that no one is willing to deal with. However, that may not be as bad as it sounds. At this point, Dana Sue brings some spice and zest to what should be called Cloying Sweet Magnolias. In other words, by providing an outlet for the audience's anger, Sullivan keeps the show fresh and the viewers interested.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see what becomes of Dana Sue in Season 4, if it is produced.
