Curb Your Enthusiasm Ending After Season 12? Here's What Show's EP Has to Say
It seems that way, but who knows what the show's unpredictable star will do in the future?
Summary
- Curb Your Enthusiasm has an outstanding history on the air.
- The show has been thought to be over many times in the past.
- Only time will tell if Season 12 is indeed the end of the sitcom.
While some sitcoms go out of fashion, others remain relevant and popular with audiences. However, there are very few comedy shows that stand the test of time. And undeniably, Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of them.
If you're wondering what makes Curb Your Enthusiasm so special, take a look at the show's phenomenal history. The cult sitcom premiered with a stand-alone special in 1991, and continued to air throughout the 2000s until it withered a bit in the early 2010s. Then, in 2017, CYE reappeared on the radar when a new, ninth installment was released. And since then, the sitcom has spanned three more seasons, the latest of which is currently airing.
Given Curb Your Enthusiasm's hectic history, it's no surprise that many viewers thought the show had ended long ago, with each new season a pleasant surprise for fans. But this time, it seems that the sitcom is indeed coming to an end.
What Makes this 'Final' Season the Show's Last?
Of course, most people are incredulous that Curb Your Enthusiasm will end after the twelfth season. After all, many previous seasons have been called the show's ultimate. But according to Jeff Schaffer, one of the sitcom's executive producers, things are very different this time around.
'This year, as we were writing, in the beginning, it wasn't that we were writing the final season. We've been dead and buried so many times. We're like a cat with nine neurotic lives and I think, I think we just got to the ninth. When we were writing, in the middle of the season, we sort of figured out how the season was going to end and it felt like it was funniest, if it was the end. That sort of cemented it. That was not the plan when we started,' the EP shared in a recent interview.
A Flicker of Hope
At the same time, there's no telling if Season 12 of Curb Your Enthusiasm will indeed be the last. And Jeff Schaffer agrees that it is entirely possible that Larry David will one day reprise his iconic role, as he has done many times before.
'Every other season was almost the final season but we never told anybody and we just were out. For this season, it won't make sense until we get there. It's just funnier when you know it's the final season. That's the reason, honestly. There's nothing more Larry David than saying it's the final season, having all this hoopla and then slinking back,' Schaffer said.
Episode 2 of Season 12 will premiere on HBO on February 11.
