The hit show finally gave fans some answers.

Freeform's anthology crime show, following some gruesome murder mysteries among American teenagers, just finished its second season, and fans were shocked to see the outcome this chapter of Cruel Summer was building for ten episodes straight.

The story of three best friends — Megan, Isabella, and Luke — who traveled to the cabin in the woods, only to find Luke's lifeless body the next morning, really made viewers sit on the edge of their seats throughout the entire season, as people were dying to know who actually took the teenager's life. However, it looks like the answer to that question managed to upset lots of fans.

While Isabella and Megan were the prime suspects from the start, most viewers never really believed that either of them were guilty. That's why, when Megan was arrested in the season finale, fans were expecting a major plot twist. And it came in the form of Luke's brother Brent, who decided to free Megan from her unjust imprisonment and confessed that he was the one who pushed Luke off the cliff into the lake, although he didn't mean to kill him.

Fans were shocked by the dubious twist and shared their disappointment online. However, after the confession, Cruel Summer's writing team decided to trick viewers one more time by showing Isabella leaving the US for Ibiza and using a different name to strike up a friendship with another teenage girl, leading people to suspect her of foul play once again.

As Megan was finally free after Brent's confession, she decided to double-check everything by traveling back to where Luke's body was found. And thanks to some kind of miracle (or bad writing, let's be honest), she managed to find a tiny CCTV overlooking that place, which proved that it was Isabella who actually killed Luke, as she drowned him after finding him badly injured.

Yes, with such a questionable plot twist, it's no wonder that some fans are already canceling the show. People say that making Isabella a real villain of the story is simply unrealistic and hurtful to all her fans.

Freeform has yet to renew Cruel Summer for a third season.
