Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo is gearing up to swap the pitch for nitro in Fast and Furious, with Vin Diesel teasing his involvement and Tyrese Gibson sharing a selfie with CR7, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Well, this is a twist I did not have on my 2025 bingo card: Cristiano Ronaldo looks like he is jumping from the pitch to the Fast & Furious universe. Fast cars, global football icon… somehow it tracks.

So, is Cristiano Ronaldo really joining Fast & Furious?

There is no press release from Universal yet, but the cast is doing everything but skywriting it. Vin Diesel shared a photo with Ronaldo and said they built a part for him. Then Tyrese Gibson posted a selfie with CR7 and other cast members on December 17, which is about as close to a confirmation as you get without a studio logo at the end.

"Welcome to the FAMILY! @Cristiano the GLOBAL DANCE JUST WENT INTO NEW HEIGHTS!!!!!!"

Officially quiet, publicly loud. Read that however you want.

What kind of role are we talking about?

Diesel’s caption spelled it out: they wrote something specifically for Ronaldo.

"We wrote a role for him."

Translation: expect a part tailored to his strengths and massive profile, not a monologue-heavy character arc. Think slick cameo or a stylish supporting turn as a high-profile ally, a rival wheelman, or some power player who can flip a switch in the plot. Also worth noting: it is not clear if he shows up in the very next film or a different entry/spin-off. The timeline is murky; the intent is not.

Yes, the Brian O’Conner question is back

Trade reporting says the next chapter plans to bring Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, back into the story. And to clear up a confusing pronoun from the chatter: when you see that Diesel pushed for their characters to reunite, that means Dom Toretto and Brian O’Conner — not Ronaldo and anyone. Furious 7 finished Brian’s scenes with VFX after Walker’s death; if the character returns again, you are looking at some form of digital/stand-in solution. People will inevitably speculate about AI here, but no filmmakers or outlets have said AI is being used. File that under wait and see.

Ronaldo on camera: the track record

Ronaldo is no stranger to screens, but he is almost always playing, well, Ronaldo. That is the brand, and the brand is the point. If you are wondering how this fits, here is the quick reel:

  • Movie cameos: Goal! III: Taking on the World; One Direction: This Is Us
  • Plenty of documentaries, reality TV, commercials, and video games
  • Nearly always as himself, leaning on presence and persona over dialogue
  • Ads sometimes dabble in mini-stories, but it is mostly star power doing star power

So no, do not expect him to roll in delivering pages of quippy exposition. Expect swagger, spectacle, and a part that makes immediate sense the second he walks on screen. Honestly, that is probably the smartest use of him anyway.

If this lands the way it looks like it will, do you see Ronaldo making a longer run in Hollywood, or is this a one-and-done victory lap? I could see either — and both would get a standing ovation from the box office.
