The filmmaker behind two X-Men films is optimistic about the upcoming flick.

Summary

  • 2023 has been a controversial year for Marvel, with fans fearing the studio's days of glory are numbered.
  • Matthew Vaughn believes Deadpool 3 will revive the MCU.
  • The filmmaker created two Marvel movies.

Over the course of 2023, there have been many exciting movie releases. Aside from the overhyped duo, Barbenheimer, there were plenty of other notable films for audiences to enjoy. And Marvel productions were arguably the most abundant among those premieres.

From the beginning to the end, 2023 saw a number of blockbusters from the renowned studio, such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantimania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Marvels. And while some of them proved to be popular with audiences and financially successful, others turned out to be major failures for Marvel. So much so that many people began to question the future of the studio.

However, it seems that it's too early to wave the flag, as Marvel's next movie, Deadpool 3, is expected to revive the MCU. At least that is what the former X-Men director thinks.

Do you think Deadpool 3 will be any good?

Matthew Vaughn's History with Marvel

Most people know Matthew Vaughn for his involvement in the Kingsmen franchise, which he wrote, produced, and directed. Some may know him as the director of the upcoming spy comedy Argyle, starring Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, and Dua Lipa, among many other A-listers. But Vaughn is also one of the filmmakers who contributed to Marvel's X-Men franchise.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that Matthew Vaughn is keeping an eye on the studio's X-Men-related projects.

'I'm a genuine fan of the X-Men, all I want is for the movies to be as good as they should be,' the director said in a recent interview.

Matthew Vaughn Is Highly Impressed with Deadpool 3

Although the former Marvel director hasn't seen the third installment of Deadpool in its entirety, he's admittedly in awe of the movie.

'The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine – or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I'm sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak – are unbelievable,' Vaughn shared.

According to the filmmaker, Deadpool 3 could be the saving grace for the MCU after the devastation of The Marvels and the general superhero fatigue audiences have experienced lately.

'That's going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it's going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe,' Matthew Vaughn added.

Hopefully the director is absolutely right about the upcoming Marvel movie. But we'll have to wait and see when it premieres on July 26.
