Complete List of 9 TV Shows Netflix Canceled in 2023
Netflix has given up on some of the most compelling stories.
Netflix has gained a considerable amount of notoriety for regularly canceling shows, sometimes even despite high ratings. And while some fandoms manage to revive their favorite franchises, such as Warrior Nun, other series fall into the unenviable abyss of oblivion.
The streaming service has renewed no small number of shows this year, as well as introducing new hits like One Piece, which has a good chance of becoming a live-action adaptation as long-running as HBO's Game of Thrones. But as always, a number of other popular shows fell by the wayside. Here's a disappointing list of Netflix's canceled shows for 2023.
9. Mindhunter
The last news we heard about the David Fincher-produced crime thriller was in 2020, when Netflix announced that he had decided to focus on other projects. However, in February 2023 and then in August, Fincher confirmed that the show would not be renewed, as it proved too expensive to produce for the streaming service despite having a loyal fan base.
8. 1899
German period horror 1899 had every chance of becoming the new Dark, as it was developed by the same team and had an equally intriguing and chilling plot. Unfortunately, Netflix canceled the series in January after only one season, when it was originally slated for three.
7. Inside Job
Another big loss in January was the cancellation of Inside Job, an animated series about the neurotic work environment in a shadow government organization from the creators of Gravity Falls and BoJack Horseman.
6. Uncoupled
Also canceled in January was Uncoupled, a romcom starring Neil Patrick Harris. Fortunately, the show was picked up by Showtime a month later, but filming on the second season has yet to begin.
5. Bling Empire
We're all used to seeing pop culture portray only the lives of rich white people, but the Crazy Rich Asians-inspired reality show Bling Empire chose to focus on the lives of pampered East and Southeast Asian Americans. Sadly, the show was canceled in April after three seasons.
4. Bling Empire: New York
At the same time, a spin-off focusing on New York City socialites was also canceled.
3. Sex/Life
The drama, about a midlife crisis housewife who longs for the wild, fast-paced life of her past, was also canceled in April.
2. Freeridge
Freeridge was a spin-off of the popular On My Block series on Netflix, and was met with critical acclaim. However, the streaming service canceled the show in April after one season.
1. Lockwood & Co.
The last major cancellation of the year was Lockwood & Co, which told the story of teenagers investigating supernatural cases in an alternate London.
