Every fan is eager to hear any news about their favorite show or movie. For this reason, it is no surprise that there's always a ton of hullabaloo within the fandom when rumors of new installments of beloved projects break.
Still, some fans get more excited than others. This is definitely the case for the Community fandom, as a movie sequel to the popular sitcom has been anticipated for almost a decade at this point. And finally, it seems that the rumored big screen installment is starting to come to fruition. At least according to the show's star.
Ken Jeong Says the Community Movie Is On Its Way
Over the course of 2023, there have been several pieces of news about the movie in question. First, the production was affected by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes – just like any other show or movie – when it was announced that the script couldn't be completed. Then Dan Harmon, the creator of Community, announced that the script was only partially finished, but that changes were being made all the time.
Now, however, the script is no longer the stumbling block. Ken Jeong, who played Ben Chang on the NBC sitcom, revealed that the Community movie had more serious logistical problems at that point, while encouraging fans to be optimistic about the production.
'Well, cautious optimism… Yes! They're working on [it]. Right now, I mean, it's really getting everyone's schedule to line. I mean, like, Donald Glover, the biggest star in the world. If you can get his schedule aligned… You have Denny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash who is an Oscar winner. We're all really busy,' the actor recently elaborated on the potential Community movie.
A Phenomenal Sitcom
Community premiered in 2009 and quickly became one of the most recognizable comedies on television thanks to its slapstick humor. As a true sitcom, the show relied on the silly yet hilarious situations its characters found themselves in to provide ample comic relief for the audience. As a result, Community had a serious advantage – it was universally funny, as its hilarity required no translation.
Naturally, the sitcom gained popularity with diverse fans around the world. And more importantly, Community remained popular with audiences throughout its somewhat hectic six-season run, which ended in 2015. And now, almost a decade later, the cult sitcom is about to be brought back to life on the big screen.
Hopefully, the movie won't be a disappointment.
