It would add another layer to the show's diversity.

Summary

  • Season 3 of Bridgerton will follow Colin and Penelope's arc, but fans want to see another character's arc developed.
  • Throughout the series, Violet Bridgerton has been portrayed as the simple mother of the family.
  • It would be useful to diversify her arc by adding some romance to it.

While Bridgerton isn't a straight anthology series, it's very reminiscent of the genre. Since its release in 2020, the Netflix romance drama has followed the narrative pattern established in the Julia Quinn novels on which it's based. Each season of the show revolves around a specific Bridgerton whose love story it depicts. Thus, Season 1 focused on Daphne Bridgerton and Season 2 on Anthony Bridgerton, portrayed by Phoebe Dynevor and Jonathan Bailey, respectively.

The upcoming third season of Bridgerton, which tells Colin's story, will follow this rule, although it will skip Benedict, who is next in line in Quinn's books. Season 3 will explore the transformation of Colin and Penelope's relationship as they face their feelings for each other. But as exciting as the story of the fan-favorite duo is, Bridgerton fans seem to want to see another character's love arc developed.

A Side Character in Her Children's Stories

Violet Bridgerton, also known as the mother of the Bridgerton family, is an interesting spot story-wise. While she has appeared in more episodes than any other character on the show, encompassing all twenty parts of the two Bridgerton seasons and one episode of the spin-off, Queen Charlotte, her story remains bland and underdeveloped.

Sadly, Violet, who gave birth to the eight fan-favorite Bridgerton children, is reduced to the mother trope, which does the show no favors. After all, the love she claims to have had with her children's late father, Edmund, is as exciting as the rest of the drama series' romances. But more importantly, such a dismissive treatment of Violet ruins Bridgerton's reputation as a diversity-driven show.

An Empowering Story

Among many other things, Bridgerton is beloved by audiences for its portrayal of diversity. With that in mind, it's a perfect idea to give a mature female character a spicy relationship arc that will show that she's still a living person and a desirable woman who wants to be loved and can be loved. In other words, Violet Bridgerton deserves some romantic action in her life.

At the moment, the character seems to have given up on herself and her own life, devoting all her time and care to her children and their future. That may be historically accurate, but Bridgerton can still change it to show that women don't have an expiration date. This would provide ample representation for more mature women and empower them instead of repeating the broken record of the devoted mother trope.

Bridgerton Season 3 will premiere on May 16.
