City Primeval Episode 4 Finally Gave Us Classic Justified We've Been Waiting For
The Justified sequel finally brings back the old-school violence, humor, and moral dilemmas.
Justified: City Primeval has been one of the most anticipated shows of the season. Among all the neo-Western crime dramas, the OG series stood out not only because of the immense charisma of Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, but also because of the way the writers dealt with issues of truth and justice, showing that these things are never just black and white.
That's why fans of Justified were excited to see Raylan return in City Primeval, but the first three episodes of the sequel got a lukewarm response from the audience. Viewers felt confused because Givens didn't seem to do much in the episodes, and the main villain, played by Boyd Holbrook, also did not help to move the story forward.
Fortunately, the most recent Episode 4, titled 'Kokomo,' set the Justified story back on track and made the fans happy again. Before reading the rest of the article, we highly recommend that you watch all four episodes first.
In the new episode, Raylan and his Detroit PD colleagues finally have a lead on Holbrook's Clement Mansell. After Albanian Skender (Alexander Pobutsky) ends up in the hospital with his leg shattered by the criminal, Raylan contacts his uncle, the head of the Albanian mafia Toma Kastiot (Terry Kinney).
When they learn about the incident, the Albanians decide to go after Mansell on their own, kidnapping Sandy's (Adelaide Clemens) roommate and torturing her to find out her whereabouts. Along the way, Ray and Bryl (Norbert Leo Butz) save the day and, in the spirit of classic Justified, give the criminals a whipping.
Meanwhile, Carolyn (Aunjanue Ellis) discovers she's being followed by the Albanians who know she is covering for Mansell. In the end, her house is guarded by Raylan, with whom Carolyn has a conversation and drinks whiskey in the car in the episode's final scenes.
Needless to say, fans loved the new characters and the dynamism they brought to the story.
'The Albanians are a great addition. Justified has never been as simple as good guys vs. bad guys,' one of the fans noted.
The fourth episode finally showed that things in City Primeval are just as complicated as the stories in the original Justified, and that none of the characters are clearly good or bad. This idea is especially highlighted by the fact Mansell had the judge's notebook, which contained information about corrupt cops and politicians.
Also, there is a lot of classic humor in this episode. Just think of Raylan comparing Skender, who supposedly fell down the stairs, to 'clumsy Jesus' or the jokes about the tooth extractor being called Albanian because it was held by one of the Albanians.
Hopefully, the future episodes of City Primeval will be as upbeat and powerful as the original series. The next episode will hit the screens on August 8, 2023.
