First rave lands for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey months before release, as Jonathan Nolan praises his brother’s Matt Damon-led fantasy epic.

Christopher Nolan is bringing Homer to the big screen this summer, and we already have an early thumbs-up from a source who knows his work better than almost anyone: his brother and longtime collaborator, Jonathan Nolan.

During a recent conversation, Jonathan — co-creator of Westworld and a regular partner on his brother's films — made it clear he had nothing to do with the production, then admitted he has seen The Odyssey and, well, he is a fan.

"I'm not working on The Odyssey."

"I have seen The Odyssey. It's tremendous. It's an incredible achievement... It's a spectacular film."

Pressed on how much of the movie he'd actually seen, he laughed off the question with the kind of answer that says plenty:

"I'm not sure I'm supposed to say that, but yes, it's tremendous."

Family endorsement or not, that's a bold preview five months out from release. And it tracks with the scale of this thing. The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan's take on Homer's epic, centered on Matt Damon as Odysseus trying to get home to Ithaca after the Trojan War, dodging gods, monsters, and every mythic curveball imaginable to reach his wife and son.

The cast is stacked. Alongside Damon, expect to see:

The Odyssey opens in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
