Christopher Landon is boarding Final Boarding, signing on to write and direct Screen Gems’ new supernatural horror film.

Christopher Landon keeps stacking horror-thriller gigs like it is his day job (it kind of is). After the whole Scream 7 situation went sideways and he bailed, he has been busy lining up new projects. The latest: a supernatural horror movie called Final Boarding. And no, not that other Final franchise you are thinking of.

Final Boarding is wheels up at Screen Gems

Final Boarding is set at Sony Pictures' Screen Gems and comes from a short story by Clarence Hammond. Plot details are sealed for now, but Landon will write and direct, building from Hammond's story and an earlier script draft by Javier Gullon. Hammond is producing, and Screen Gems president Ashley Brucks is the one who optioned the story from him — the two previously worked together at Paramount Players.

(Not to be confused with Final Destination. Different gate, different flight.)

Landon's current run

Landon was once attached to direct Scream 7, but that gig turned into such a mess he pulled the ripcord. Kevin Williamson then jumped on Scream 7 and pushed it through production while Landon pivoted to a fresh slate:

  • Drop, a fast-paced thriller that hit theaters in April
  • Big Bad, a werewolf thriller
  • Blink of an Eye, a Netflix thriller
  • Final Boarding, the new supernatural horror at Screen Gems

Why Landon fits this lane

Landon has a deep bench of genre work. He directed Freaky, Happy Death Day, Happy Death Day 2U, We Have a Ghost, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Burning Palms, and most recently Drop. As a writer, he has credits on Paranormal Activity 2, 3, and 4, Viral, Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, Heart Eyes, and often scripts the movies he directs. He has also produced My Best Friend's Exorcism and Time Cut, along with several of his own films.

Personal take: the Paranormal Activity entries are not my go-to, but Landon's high-concept, crowd-pleasy horror-comedies usually hit the spot. A ghostly airport chiller from him sounds like the right kind of pulpy fun. More when casting and story details taxi out of the hangar.
