Chris Hemsworth Teases Avengers: Doomsday as the MCU's Most Emotional Chapter Yet
Chris Hemsworth says MCU fans should brace for an incredibly emotional Avengers: Doomsday, now in post with Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm and set to hit U.S. theaters later this year, paving the way for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Marvel is clearly aiming for tears with Avengers: Doomsday, and Chris Hemsworth is not exactly playing coy about it. The movie is in post right now, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and headed for U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026. Its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, lands December 17, 2027. Big swings across two Decembers. No pressure.
Hemsworth on how heavy this one gets
Asked point-blank if a Thor/Loki reunion is going to make fans cry, Hemsworth dodged but couldn’t help hinting.
"I can’t - it’s yes, no, or maybe to that question."
Then he went all-in on the tone:
"It’s incredibly emotional. It’s incredibly powerful. It’s going to blow you away, this one. I don’t know how they do it."
What Marvel has shown so far
There have been four Doomsday teasers to date. The first one set the internet on fire by confirming Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is back in the MCU. The second put the spotlight on Thor. The third doubled down on Asgard-adjacent faces. And the fourth shifted over to Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and a few more key players. The marketing is basically rolling out the roster card by card.

The shape of Doomsday
With the Russos back at the helm and the film already in post, Marvel is clearly treating this as a tentpole that has to hit hard on both spectacle and sentiment. If the teasers are any hint, they’re front-loading the emotional reunion energy and flexing the sheer chaos of that cast. Hemsworth calling it 'incredibly emotional' tracks. December’s going to be busy.
