After a modest box office run, Channing Tatum’s crime thriller Roofman is roaring on Prime Video, vaulting into the ranks of the most-watched films across OTT. Fueled by strong word of mouth from critics and audiences, the heist drama has become a breakout streaming hit.

Channing Tatum quietly dropped one of his best roles in years, it did fine in theaters, and now it is blowing up on streaming. The crime drama 'Roofman' is suddenly everywhere, and the timing could not be better for anyone who missed it on the big screen.

Streaming surge

As of February 23, 2026, 'Roofman' is the #3 movie on Prime Video worldwide. It is also holding at #3 on Paramount+ in the United States for six straight days. On Prime, it is sitting behind two buzzy titles and ahead of a pack of heavy hitters, which is a neat little flex for a mid-budget thriller.

  1. The Wrecking Crew
  2. Love Me Love Me
  3. Roofman
  4. The Smashing Machine (starring Dwayne Johnson)
  5. Apocalypto
  6. MR-9: Do or Die
  7. The Astronaut
  8. Ballerina
  9. Playdate
  10. Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri

What the movie is

'Roofman' tells the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a thief who became infamous for crawling into McDonald's restaurants through the roof. After a prison break, he took it up a notch by secretly living inside a Toys R Us in North Carolina. The film sticks to the facts where it counts and folds in some fictional touches to build out the drama. It runs just over two hours (about 2:05 to 2:06), and yes, even the runtime floats a minute depending on where you look.

From TIFF to a word-of-mouth winner

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025, then rolled into U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025. It earned an estimated $34.7 million worldwide on a $19 million budget. That is solid, not splashy, which makes this current streaming breakout feel like the audience finally catching up.

How it is playing with critics and viewers

The reception has been consistently strong. It is certified fresh with an 87% critics score and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Over on Metacritic, it carries a 66 Metascore (generally favorable) and a 7.0 user score. Translation: the movie works, and people are recommending it.

Who made it (and who is in it)

Derek Cianfrance directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Kirt Gunn. Cianfrance and Tatum also executive produced. The producing team includes Lynette Howell Taylor, Duncan Montgomery, Alex Orlovsky, Jamie Patricof, and Dylan Sellers.

Channing Tatum leads as Jeffrey Manchester, with Kirsten Dunst playing Leigh Wainscott. The supporting cast features LaKeith Stanfield, Tony Revolori, Kirana Kuic, Gabriella Cila, and Melonie Diaz.

If you skipped 'Roofman' last fall, this is the ideal couch catch-up: a sharp, specific true-crime ride that is finally getting the eyeballs it deserves.
