The stage is set for a blockbuster series, with momentum surging, tempers flaring, and every showdown too close to call.

I know a lot of you have been waiting for a celebrity spin on The Traitors, and the wait is basically over. BBC One is hauling us back to that Scottish castle on Wednesday 8 October for a starry version of the game where trust goes to die. Claudia Winkleman returns, the cloaks are back, and yes, a handful of celebs will be secretly anointed as Traitors to pick off their fellow players at night. The prize: up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.

Who is playing, and what is actually confirmed?

Here is where the tea gets a bit messy. An initial roll call is being floated as the 'confirmed' Celebrity Traitors lineup. But in the very same breath, a few of those names are being described as still in talks or simply rumored via tabloid sources. So, take the below roster as the pool of famous faces you should expect to see in or around the castle, with asterisks in your mind for the ones everyone keeps calling 'in talks' or 'rumored.'

  • Nick Mohammed, Joe Marler, David Olusoga, Niko Omilana, Mark Bonnar, Jonathan Ross, Joe Wilkinson, Lucy Beaumont, Ruth Codd, Tameka Empson, Celia Imrie, Cat Burns, Charlotte Church, Kate Garraway, Alan Carr, Paloma Faith, Tom Daley, Clare Balding, Stephen Fry

The players, one by one

Nick Mohammed

Age: 44. Instagram: @nickmohammedy. Job: Actor and comedian.

Nick is best known lately for Ted Lasso, Douglas is Cancelled, and Taskmaster, alongside a long list of screen and stage credits.

Joe Marler

Age: 34. Instagram: @joemarler17. Job: Rugby player.

The Harlequins and England prop turned pundit brings elite-sport energy and, presumably, a decent poker face.

David Olusoga

Age: 55. Instagram: none. Job: Historian, author, filmmaker.

Olusoga started out researching the 1999 BBC series Western Front and went on to front Black and British: A Forgotten History, A House Through Time, and Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners. Expect a steel-trap mind at the roundtable.

Niko Omilana

Age: 27. Instagram: @niko. Job: YouTuber and comic.

Prankster, Beta Squad member, and part-time political wildcard who ran for London mayor in 2021 and then ran again in the general election three years later.

Mark Bonnar

Age: 56. Instagram: @mark_bonnar. Job: Actor.

The Line of Duty and Psychoville standout (also Casualty) has the kind of calm intensity that screams Traitor bait. Or Traitor. We will see.

Jonathan Ross

Age: 64. Instagram: @mewossy. Job: Television presenter.

Chat show royalty and Masked Singer/Masked Dancer judge. If anyone can work a room and control a conversation, it is Ross.

Joe Wilkinson

Age: 49. Instagram: @gillinghamjoe. Job: Comedian.

Started gigging in 2004 opening for Alan Carr and Russell Howard. Credits include England’s Worst Ever Football Team, Him & Her, and Robert’s Web, plus the panel show circuit: 8 Out of 10 Cats, Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week.

Lucy Beaumont

Age: 41. Instagram: @the_one_from_hull. Job: Comedian.

Finalist on So You Think You’re Funny in 2011, winner of the BBC Radio New Comedy Awards, and the brains behind Meet the Richardsons, which she wrote and starred in back in 2020 with her then husband Jon Richardson.

Ruth Codd

Age: 28. Instagram: @ruthcodd. Job: Actress.

You have likely seen her in Netflix’s The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.

Tameka Empson

Age: 47. Instagram: @official_tameka_empson. Job: Actress.

EastEnders fans know her as Kim Fox, which means she is no stranger to drama or scheming storylines.

Celia Imrie

Age: 72. Instagram: @celia.imrie. Job: Actress.

From Calendar Girls to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (and a mountain of stage work), Imrie brings class, timing, and probably devastating side-eye.

Cat Burns

Age: 25. Instagram: @catburns. Job: Singer.

Her breakout track Go exploded on social media, and 2024 brought her debut album. If there is a song for banishment, she can probably sing it.

Charlotte Church

Age: 39. Instagram: @therealcharlottechurch. Job: Singer.

She pivoted from classical to pop and racked up more than 10 million records sold within her first decade. On The Masked Singer, she finished runner-up as Mushroom, losing out to Natalie Imbruglia.

Kate Garraway

Age: 57. Instagram: @kategarraway. Job: Broadcaster.

Now a Good Morning Britain co-anchor, she started in the 90s at ITV News Central before moving to GMTV from 2000 to 2010. Viewers trust her. Will players?

Alan Carr

Age: 48. Instagram: @chattyman. Job: Comedian.

This is where the rumor mill kicks in. A source called him an absolute national treasure and teased chaos when he bounces off the more sensible names on the cast, plus giggles with pals like Jennifer. Carr hosted Chatty Man from 2009 to 2017, fronted Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow, and currently leads Alan Carr’s Picture Slam and Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job.

Paloma Faith

Age: 43. Instagram: @palomafaith. Job: Singer.

Also tagged as a rumor. One tabloid source pitched her as a fascinating character with plenty of stories and said she would bring glam to the castle. Signature tracks include Only Love Can Hurt Like This, Can’t Rely on You, and Lullaby.

Tom Daley

Age: 30. Instagram: @tomdaley. Job: Olympian.

The diving icon competed at the Olympics in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2021, then announced his retirement after Paris 2024. He told Vogue:

It feels very, very surreal. I felt so incredibly nervous going into this, knowing it was my last Olympics. There was a lot of pressure and expectations. I was eager for it to be done. But when I walked out, and saw my husband [Dustin Lance Black] and kids, and my friends and family in the audience, I was like, 'You know what? This is exactly why I did this.'

As for The Traitors, he is said to be in final talks. One insider claimed this celeb edition blows I’m a Celebrity and Strictly out of the water and called him the perfect player because nobody expects mischief from a baby-faced lad. We shall see.

Clare Balding

Age: 53. Instagram: @clarebalding. Job: Broadcaster.

Another name being talked up by the tabloids. The pitch: she almost always turns down reality TV, so this would be a rare peek at what she is like off the autocue. She is the BBC’s dependable face of sport, from racing and the Olympics to Crufts and the occasional Countryfile stint. The fun question being floated: could the nation’s sensible sport anchor be a treacherous liar?

Stephen Fry

Age: 67. Instagram: @stephenfryactually. Job: Actor, writer, voice performer.

Reportedly top of Claudia Winkleman’s wish list. When Zoe Ball asked him directly on BBC Radio 2, Fry played it coy:

I have heard rumors that I am in it... but I am not allowed to comment.

Fry first broke out as half of Fry and Laurie with Hugh Laurie, and has since popped up everywhere from Netflix’s Heartstopper to Treasure, Bones, and Red, White & Royal Blue.

When and where to watch

Celebrity Traitors begins Wednesday 8 October on BBC One, with the usual cloak-and-dagger in the Scottish Highlands and up to £100,000 on the line for charity. If you need a refresher before the mayhem, The Traitors seasons 1-3 are streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
