Catherine or Kate Middleton: What's the Princess of Wales' True Name?

While both fans and media frequently refer to the Princess of Wales as Kate Middleton, you will never find that first name mentioned in any official royal documents, as Prince William's wife's real name is Catherine. And furthermore, people are not even sure why the name Kate is used at all, with some venturing a guess the press invented it as a more compact euphemism for Catherine.

At any rate, it's widely known that Catherine detests when she is called Kate, and all her close relatives and friends always use only her full name when she's around. That's why Prince Harry's book surprised fans quite a bit.

In his best-selling memoir, Spare, Prince Harry frequently mentions his brother's wife, calling her Kate instead of Catherine. If the Princess of Wales is indeed so offended by that tabloid moniker, why did Harry choose to insult her in this way? Fans feel that Meghan Markle must somehow have been involved in all of this, as her rivalry with Catherine has been the subject of speculation since she became a member of the royal family in 2018.

However, some people feel that Harry decided to insult his brother and his wife by using their nicknames in his book all on his own because he felt excluded from his own family and bitter that he would never get as much power as his older brother.

'I think calling William Willy and Catherine Kate is a bid to minimise their status of objectively ranking higher than him. He's trying to diminish them,' another fan suggested.

So, it looks like Prince Harry's book features not only some questionable stories and declarations of love for Meghan Markle but also some spiteful remarks that really detract from Harry's image as a caring brother and member of the royal family.

But then again, perhaps, calling the Princess of Wales Kate rather than Catherine is really no big deal seeing how practically every media outlet in the world also calls her that all the time.
