Carrie episode 4 is in the can as Axelle Carolyn confirms filming has wrapped.

Mike Flanagan is taking another swing at Stephen King, this time with a Prime Video series based on King’s 1974 debut, Carrie. And yes, things are moving: director Axelle Carolyn just wrapped her episode and says the script is, in her words, fantastic. Not exactly shocking for Team Flanagan, but still good to hear.

Where things stand

On September 24, Carolyn posted a clapperboard shot on Instagram and confirmed they had finished shooting episode 4. She kept it celebratory and grateful, shouting out a welcoming cast and crew, and tipping her hat to Flanagan for the trust. She also sounded genuinely thrilled to be back in King’s sandbox.

"Eternally grateful to Mike Flanagan for trusting me with another fantastic script - and what a joy to get to play in the world of Stephen King!"

To be clear: this was a wrap for her episode, not the whole season. But it’s a nice check-in on where the production is.

What this version is doing

The series is being pitched as a contemporary, sharper-edged take on Carrie White, the alienated high-schooler with telekinetic abilities. It zeroes in on how her hyper-religious mother and brutal classmates help push those powers to the surface, culminating in a catastrophe that shakes the town of Chamberlain, Maine. If you know the book, you know the vibes; if you don’t, expect a slow-burn pressure cooker that ends with fallout.

Why this team makes sense

Flanagan adapting King is kind of his thing at this point: Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck are already on his scoreboard. Carolyn’s no stranger to his orbit either - she directed on The Midnight Club and helmed episode 8 of The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Romance of Certain Old Clothes. Beyond the Flanaganverse, she has credits on Creepshow, American Horror Story: Double Feature, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. In other words, she’s fluent in the language this show needs.

Bottom line: it’s a Prime Video Carrie that leans into character and dread, led by people who know how to do both. Carolyn wrapping episode 4 is a solid mile marker, and if her take on the script is any indication, King’s first novel might be getting the kind of small-screen treatment that actually earns the reimagining label.
