Can't Get Enough of The Summer I Turned Pretty? Here Are 6 Shows Just Like It
Get ready for teen drama galore.
The Summer I Turned Pretty took Amazon viewers by storm last year with its portrayal of the trials and tribulations of teenage love. But if you've seen it all and are looking for more of the same vibe, check out these shows you're sure to love:
1. XO, Kitty
A South Korean teen drama with plenty of twists and turns. Well-rounded characters make the show compelling, and it explores a variety of themes such as coming of age, coming out and complicated love triangles. A spin-off of the To All the Boys movies, there's only been one season of the show so far.
2. Dawson's Creek
A classic teen show that tackles all the usual themes and just goes to show that things never really change. Dawson Leery has been best friends with tomboy Joey since childhood, but as they reach their mid-teens, it seems they may have deeper feelings for each other. And then new girl Jen comes into the picture and complicates things.
3. Never Have I Ever
A Netflix original about an Indian-American high school student, Devi, who has a difficult time at school due to multiple family issues. The show has been credited with changing the landscape of South Asian representation in the film industry. But it's also a high-quality coming-of-age drama in its own right, and well worth a binge.
4. One Tree Hill
Released at pretty much the same time as Dawson's Creek ended, this show has a slightly different perspective to many in the genre. While it tackles many of the issues you'd expect from a teen drama, its two main protagonists are half-brothers who initially hate each other but grow closer as they navigate teenage life together.
5. Looking For Alaska
Based on John Green's novel of the same name, this miniseries follows teenager Miles Halter, who is fascinated by famous last words and the concept of 'the Great Perhaps'. This obsession leads him to a college in Alabama, where he meets and falls in love with a rebellious girl named Alaska, from whom he learns many life lessons.
6. Outer Banks
Ok, so this is a bit different from The Summer I Turned Pretty. It's a teen drama with lots of angst and messy relationships, but set against the backdrop of an ongoing class war, a mysterious death and a constant threat to the main characters.
