After that cliffhanger-packed Season 22 fall finale, Camilla Luddington hints Jo Wilson is barreling toward a really dark, possibly brutal turn when Grey’s Anatomy returns.

Grey's Anatomy left Jo on the operating table and all of us on the ledge, and now Camilla Luddington is telling fans to brace for impact. If you thought that fall finale ending was rough, she says the next hour goes darker. Fun!

What Luddington is saying

Luddington, the 41-year-old Grey's vet and yes, the same actor you remember from Californication, told TheWrap that the mid-season cliffhanger is just the beginning. When the ABC series comes back, it is not easing in.

'If there is one word to sit on, it would be 'brutal.' Emotionally prepare because the next episode coming up after this, it is worse, to be honest.'

She also warned that this episode and the one right after are 'really dark.' So, consider that your content warning from someone who would definitely know.

Where the finale left Jo

  • Season 22, Episode 6 served as the fall/mid-season finale, and it put Jo in real danger: pregnancy-related heart issues hit at the worst possible time.
  • To protect her unborn twins, Jo reluctantly agreed to an emergency C-section.
  • With the clock basically down to zero, Dr. Winston Ndugu stepped in to do the surgery himself.
  • Problem: he has not actually performed that procedure since his medical school days. Not exactly the reassurance you want before slicing into an emergency C-section.
  • Luddington spelled out the stakes: everything is on the line, survival is not a sure thing, and one bad move could cost everything.

When do we get answers?

Grey's just went on hiatus, so the wait is on. Episode 7 is set for Wednesday, January 8, 2026. Luddington basically told fans to take a breath and try to compartmentalize until then — perhaps with a glass of wine — because nothing gets resolved before January.
