There are a few reasons for that.

Season 5 of Virgin River has come and gone, leaving us with a slightly sad sense of loss and anticipation for the holiday specials coming on November 30th. The season answered many burning questions and introduced new storylines that will continue in the next chapter.

Of course, being a romantic show, Virgin River this season focused on the relationships between protagonists Mel and Jack and other small town residents, and even introduced several new couples. Among them, one stands out. It is Muriel St. Claire and Cameron Hayek.

This pairing certainly surprised many fans, but it actually makes sense and is one of the best writing decisions in Season 5. Here's why.

The development of the relationship was fun to watch

Because of their age difference, which is not that huge by the way, not many viewers expected Cameron and Muriel to get together before Season 5. However, when the season started and Muriel took a part-time job at the clinic, it was impossible to take our eyes off their storyline.

They started out as co-workers supporting each other (Doc is a tough nut to crack), became great friends, and then lovers. Overall, it was a really good portrayal of the friends-to-lovers trope. One of the best, actually.

The chemistry is electric

There's no denying that Cameron and Muriel's chemistry is off-the-charts. It is amazing how these characters, who both had fairly complicated arcs on the show, became even more compelling when paired together. Every time they were on screen together, the mutual attraction was palpable.

Their approach to love is refreshingly mature

It is refreshing to see a mature romance on screen. Since both characters are adults with extensive backgrounds and a history of failed relationships, they come into this with a cool head and a knowledge of what they both want. The decision to tell Doc is proof of that.

The relationship feels solid

Both Muriel and Cameron admitted that this is the first time in years that they have felt such a strong connection to another person. Given their history on the show and their past storylines, it makes sense that they would hold on to each other and overcome any obstacles that come their way. Goodness knows we need couples that last on TV.

It's interesting to see what comes next

Virgin River returns for Season 6 and it will definitely be exciting to see what comes next for Cameron and Muriel. This wouldn't be the show we love if it didn't have some drama in store for them. Also, we haven't had a steamy scene between the two of them yet, so hopefully that will happen next season.

Do you agree that Cameron and Muriel are one of the best couples in Virgin River?
