Will Benedict have to sit out another social season?

Bridgerverse fans, especially those who came from Julia Quinn's book series, reacted with dismay to the news that Colin Bridgerton would take over Season 3 from his older brother. For many, Benedict's story is a favorite, and the order of Quinn's novels should not have been disturbed.

But Shonda Rhimes and her team thought it was Colin and Penelope Featherington's romantic arc that was begging to be picked up next. And it actually made sense because, over the course of the first two seasons, both Colin and Penelope played larger roles in the show's main storyline and received more screen time than Benedict. It was natural for them to move forward with their big love story without dragging out their arcs for another season.

Now, even before the Season 3 premiere, it looks like Eloise is repeating their journey. There are several hints that Benedict Bridgerton may have to sit out another social season to make way for his younger sister.

The promotional campaign for the series' next season has recently begun, and fans have noticed that, in addition to Colin and Penelope, the billboards also feature Eloise, indicating that the rebellious Bridgerton will play a major role in Season 4. So far, Eloise is the only one who knows that the mysterious gossip writer Lady Whistledown is Penelope, which puts her in the spotlight in the upcoming episodes.

The falling friendship between Eloise and Penelope is something Bridgerton will have to explore next, and it can't be a short scene. Also, it has been teased that their falling out will lead to Eloise finding a new friend. Could this be a reference to someone important? The love story of Quinn's Eloise started with her being pen pals with Sir Philip Crane, who we already saw as Marina Thompson's husband.

Earlier this year, Chris Fulton, who plays Philip, sent the Bridgerverse fandom into a frenzy by sharing a new picture of his character on his Instagram page. Some people believed the post was a hint at Eloise's story coming next.

Another (and probably the biggest) argument for Eloise leading Bridgerton Season 4 is that the show hasn't been renewed for new chapters beyond the fourth. If Netflix were to cancel the series (God knows they can), it would be more disastrous for the main story to cut Eloise's arc short than Benedict's, since his love interest hasn't even been cast yet.
