Bridgerton's Worst Parent: How Did We Miss the Signs?
Bridgerton, the Netflix period drama that took the world by storm, has been praised for its unique and thrilling portrayal of a different historical time period with a modern approach.
The show offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the wealthy families of the Regency era, who were bound by strict societal norms and expectations. However, fans have recently been noticing that the show's parental figures have made some seriously questionable parenting choices.
And among those flawed parents, one character who stands out as the most reprehensible is Violet Bridgerton.
At first glance, Violet Bridgerton is a caring and loving mother of eight who only wants the best for her children. She's always there for them, offering advice and guidance whenever they need it. She's also fiercely protective of her family and will do whatever it takes to ensure their happiness and well-being.
However, a closer look reveals a more troubling truth. As the show progresses, it becomes clear that Violet's parenting style is not as good as it may seem.
First of all, Violet really dropped the ball with her daughter Daphne when it came to the birds and the bees talk. She failed to educate her about the intricacies of the marriage bed, making it easy for Simon to take advantage of her naivety to avoid having children.
While it's true that it wasn't common for mothers to talk about the marriage bed during that time period, in the books, Penelope Featherington mentions that her mother Portia at least gave her a basic rundown of what to expect in the bedroom.
Although it wasn't exactly the most comprehensive guide, it's still better than what Violet did – which was nothing at all.
Secondly, viewers have noticed a concerning pattern in Violet's treatment of her eldest son Anthony. She has a tendency to dismiss, criticize and blame him for every misfortune that befalls their family.
In fact, it got so bad that fans started to think that Anthony was the least favorite among his siblings, with some even questioning if Violet loves him.
It's easy to see why Violet's behavior may be overlooked at first. After all, she was raised in a society where women had limited opportunities and were expected to conform to strict gender roles. However, it's important to recognize that while she undoubtedly loves her children, her parenting style leaves much to be desired - especially by today's standards.
