Bridgerton's Penelope & Colin Infamous Mirror Scene Explained: What to Expect in Season 3
If you're wondering why everyone is using the mirror emoji when talking about Bridgerton Season 3, we're here to explain.
The next chapter of Bridgerton, coming sometime this year, will be based on Julia Quinn's novel Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, which follows the romantic story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Ever since the new season was announced, Bridgerverse fans have been wondering how much the show will deviate from the book, and which of Quinn's scenes will make it to screen.
Luckily, we have Nicola Coughlan who is happy to indulge the Bridgerverse fandom with some teases and hints.
The Penelope actress sent fans into a frenzy by posting the mirror emoji on her Instagram story and mentioning the object again in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. When a host asked her to share some details about the upcoming season, Coughlan responded with a single word.
'Mirror,' she said, clearly alluding to a particularly steamy scene in Quinn's novel.
In the book, Colin and Penelope have their first sex before their wedding on the night of their engagement ball. During this very sensual scene, Colin opens up about how obsessed he is with Penelope's body and wants her to see how beautiful she is. So he tells her about a very specific sexual fantasy.
'His lips found her ear and his voice dropped to a whisper. "And I want to do it in front of a mirror",' the novel reads.
Although the two never act out the fantasy in the book, fans think all of Coughlan's hints mean that the Netflix show will satisfy Colin's desires in one way or another.
Over the past few months, the Bridgerton cast has promised that Season 3 will have a lot more juicy scenes than Season 2. This could mean that, in addition to the first kiss, making out and first sex, fans should get ready for some hot mirror action in whatever form it comes to the screen.
'I actually hope that [the mirror scene] ends up being a fantasy sequence for Colin,' a fan wrote on Reddit. 'I'm pretty sure most women find the idea sexy as hell that the romantic hero is having sexual fantasies about the female lead.'
Considering how things were left for the couple in the Season 2 finale, such a theory sounds very appealing. It would certainly be great to see Colin fall deeply in love with Penelope and get really crazy about her, to the point of fantasizing about having sex with her.
