5. Lady

Lady was Sansa Stark's direwolf. When Arya's direwolf, Nymeria, bit Joffrey, the girl drove Nymeria away to save her from certain death, but Cersei demanded that Sansa's pet be executed instead. The death of the innocent animal was one of the most brutal at the beginning of the series.

4. Robb Stark

A respected King in the North with a beloved wife, a loving mother, and lots of hopes for the future, Robb Stark was on the cusp of success. But all of that vanished in an instant when Robb and all his loved ones were killed by the Freys, and the King's direwolf's head was sewn to his master's body.

3. Hodor

Hodor was one of the most lovable characters whose death broke the hearts of many fans. When he was still a young and sane stableboy, Hodor discovered that his life would end tragically as he would need to save his master, Bran, by holding the door to prevent the White Walkers from entering.

The vision of his impending demise traumatized Hodor deeply, and viewers were equally traumatized seeing his death unfold on the screen.

2. Shireen Baratheon

After losing Winterfell to Ramsay Bolton, Stannis Baratheon took Melisandre's advice and decided to make a sacrifice to the Lord of Light, burning his only daughter alive. Stannis and his wife, along with Melisandre and the army, watched as Shireen was tied to a pole and died in flames, and it seems that viewers were the ones who suffered the most from this scene.

1. Oberyn Martell

The fiery Prince of Dorne had captivated viewers from his first appearance in Season 4. Oberyn tried to defend the honor of his sister, who was raped and brutally murdered by Gregor Clegane, but his seemingly successful duel with Clegane was also his last.

His opponent crushed Oberyn's head with his bare hands, making the audience gasp in horror.
