Bonnie & Klaus Relationship is The Vampire Diaries' Biggest Missed Opportunity
A popular supernatural teen series, The Vampire Diaries finished almost six years ago, leaving fans disappointed with a few things that could have been done differently.
In particular, there was no suggestion of a possible love arc involving Bonnie and Klaus, but viewers claim these two characters had plenty of potential as a romantic couple. Let’s explore this hypothetical pairing and see where it could lead the series.
The first reason why people would like to see these characters together is simply because Bonnie is such a nice protagonist, and it would be interesting to follow her relationship with a hot bad-guy boyfriend that Klaus is.
Fans think the characters could have a sort of love-hate romance, so seeing their relationship’s dynamics change throughout the course of the series would certainly be captivating.
Secondly, it would seem logical to ship the characters since Klaus deliberately chooses to be around potent witches for the sake of safety, and Bonnie is arguably one of the most powerful sorceresses — and she’s also very self-sacrificial, for that matter. It just seems wrong that the writers haven’t made full use of these characters to create a new exciting storyline.
Bonnie and Klaus might have developed a true romance, or she could be a dangerous toy in his hands.
Furthermore, it seems absolutely ridiculous that Bonnie is not interested in Klaus. He is charming, very intelligent, and savvy about witchcraft, and it would only be natural if Bonnie were fascinated by his knowledge — or his collection of sorcery books. The most powerful witch and the most powerful vampire/werewolf would be the absolute power couple, and their relationship could be beneficial for both.
Lastly, we may argue that Bonnie simply belongs in the Mikaelson clan since her own ancestors were once part of it. With Bonnie entering the clan as Klaus’ partner, the story would make a full circle.
This plot development would make so much more sense, bringing Bonnie to the front as a prominent character instead of a minor player that she is in the second half of The Vampire Diaries. Bonnie and Klaus would make it to The Originals together, and her storyline would simply be a better one.
Speaking about the consequences of Bonnie and Klaus’ love arc, fans argue that Bonnie should have been Hope’s mother.
Bonnie would pass her witch blood to Hope, making her a powerful crossbreed — a witch on her mother’s side and a vampire and werewolf on her father’s. From here, the opportunities for character and plot development seem unlimited. And just imagine how great it would be to watch Bonnie and Klaus raise a child together!
