Blue Bloods Cleans House for Season 14: Who Might Not Make the Cut
It looks like some favorite characters won't be returning.
CBS' Blue Bloods may be one of the biggest crime series on the air right now, but some of the long-time actors working on the show are still living life on the side, refusing to dedicate their careers to just one character.
That's why a lot of fan-favorite actors have left the production over the last decade, and to accuse them of jumping ship is pretty unfair. Still, it looks like the upcoming Season 14 will lose a record number of characters as producers struggle to cut costs amid extended delays due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Just to reassure you — no, none of the main cast members will be leaving next season: Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and other key members of the Reagan family have confirmed that they will be returning for Season 14. However, at least two secondary members of the family are rumored to be absent in the upcoming season — Jack and Nicky Reagan.
Obviously, these characters were pretty integral to the show during the first few seasons, but later, the Reagan children were written off the story due to the same problem. As it turns out, both Sami Gayle and Tony Terraciano decided to enroll in colleges, and their schedules didn't align with filming.
Both fortunately found time to appear in the recent chapters of Blue Bloods, but only for a few short family dinner scenes and only once or twice a season. And now, with all the delays in production, some people think the producers are going to write both Jack and Nicky off the show for good.
However, that's still not the most heartbreaking news about Season 14. Apparently, Jennifer Esposito's Detective Jackie Curatola won't be returning either.
Fans were over the moon after Jackie and Danny Reagan were reunited for the first time in over a decade, hoping that Esposito would stay for the series' next season. But sadly, there is virtually no confirmation that the actress will be back for Season 14, so it looks like her brief appearance was just meant to please the long-time fans of the show, and that's it.
Due to the ongoing strikes, Blue Bloods Season 14 will not premiere this fall but is expected to air on CBS in early 2024.
