Blade Reboot Rejected the Guy Who Wrote the Originals

David S. Goyer — the writer behind all three Wesley Snipes Blade movies — says he offered to help Marvel with the reboot. They turned him down.
In a recent interview with Variety, Goyer said fans and friends had been bugging him to jump back in when the project hit another stall last year. He wasn't planning on it, but eventually had his agent call Marvel. Their response?
"We love you, but we think we've cracked it now, and we're in a good place."
That was eight months — and one more "hiccup" — ago. Since then, the film has lost more talent, gone through multiple scripts, and been pulled from its planned November 2025 release. At this point, it's off the calendar entirely.
Goyer said he still has love for the character and might consider returning "just for old time's sake," but made it clear he's mostly moved on:
"Even though I'm now considered a DC guy, I started as a Marvel guy... But yeah, I'm pretty much otherwise 99% done with superheroes."
Marvel announced Blade with Mahershala Ali back in 2019, and six years later, the most we've seen is an off-screen voice cameo in Eternals. The production's been through two directors, several writers, and more delays than anyone can count.
At this point, fans are so used to the chaos that Deadpool & Wolverine turned it into a punchline — featuring a joke from Wesley Snipes' Blade saying there'll only ever be one.
Whether Marvel actually "cracked it" remains to be seen. For now, Goyer's out — and Blade is still stuck in limbo.
