Jenny will be goofing around in the new variety show.

Whether you're into K-pop or not, it's unlikely that you've missed the news about the failure of The Idol featuring South Korean singer and Blackpink member Jenny. Following in Jisoo's footsteps as an actress, Jenny also decided to enter the industry. This time not in a South Korean production, but in an American one.

Many predicted a brilliant career in Hollywood for her, but unfortunately the atrocity that turned out to be The Idol lowered those chances (hopefully not forever!).

However, Jenny is not discouraged and continues to appear on the small screen: in 2024 we will see her in a new Korean variety show.

Korean Variety Shows

Let's examine what kind of phenomenon these variety shows are. Although the genre originated in Europe and the U.S., its popularity waned in the late 20th century, although some continue to exist, such as Britain's Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

The essence of the genre is a mix of reality competition format and sketch comedy, sometimes featuring singing, dancing and even acrobatics.

And while interest in the format has largely faded in the West, it remains incredibly popular in East and Southeast Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, Korea and other countries in the region. In South Korea, variety shows are now a staple of television programming that is broadcast internationally.

New Project Starring Jennie

Following her appearance on The Idol, Jennie has been working on her new single You & Me, which will be released on October 6th. At the same time, she performed with Blackpink on the Born Pink World Tour, which ended on September 17th. And now it looks like the singer is open to new career opportunities, as she will be featured in a new variety show on tvN. The working title is Apartment 404.

'Yoo Jae Suk, Jennie, and Lee Jung Ha will be appearing on Apartment 404. The broadcast date has not yet been decided,' the network rep told Newsen (via Koreaboo).

Yoo Jae Suk is one of the central figures in the Korean variety show genre, having hosted the iconic Infinite Challenge and Running Man. Notably, he and Jenny have also worked together before, serving as host and contestant, respectively, on the first season of Village Survival, the Eight, which ended in December 2018.

In addition, superhero drama Moving stars Lee Jung Ha and Cha Tae Hyun will also be joining the show. The release date is still unknown, but is scheduled for early 2024.
