It looks like Jennie has disappointed her fans.

When HBO announced that a new series from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson would star The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, and Jennie from BlackPink, the world collectively dubbed The Idol the most anticipated show of 2023. However, not an ounce of that enthusiasm managed to survive after The Idol premiered, as people began to trash it immediately after seeing the first episode.

Many viewers wondered why The Weeknd and Depp agreed to appear in this mess, but it looks like BlackPink's Jennie got an even harsher reaction from her fans.

BlackPink is undoubtedly one of the most popular bands of our time, so each individual member of this K-Pop sensation has an army of millions of loyal fans. And it seems that Jennie's fans were very disappointed with her decision to make her small screen debut on The Idol — and not because of the excessive nudity and violence that this show so often features.

'I just personally think Jennie could've done so much better, as in opted for a show in which she had more screentime, more dialogues and not just looking pretty. Just like her bandmate Jisoo did. It just pisses me off because I feel like The Idol's PR team used Jennie as a bait,' one fan said.

While this statement may sound a bit reductive, as Jennie agreed to star in the show after The Weeknd showed her the script, one thing cannot be denied — Jennie's screen time is insultingly small, especially compared to The Weeknd and Depp.

Fortunately, after the third episode, it looks like the series will be spending a lot more time exploring Jennie's character Dyanne, whose villainous arc is expected to take center stage in the final episodes.

Even though some of Jennie's fans have criticized her for choosing an episodic role on The Idol as her first foray into acting, others argue that Jennie has done well for a Korean star.

'It is not easy for a K-Pop idol to get a main character role in an American show. Even American singers rarely ever get main character roles. I don't get why people expect Jennie to be more than a pretty face in an American show, most of the time, non-actors are casted in shows to just get more views,' another fan noted.

The Idol Episode 4 will arrive on HBO on June 25, 2023.
