Behind the Scenes Drama: Sophia Bush Slams Her Chicago P.D. Co-Star
It looks like actress Sophia Bush left the show because of significant issues with co-star Jason Beghe.
Chicago Fire's first spinoff, Chicago P.D., received high praise upon its 2014 premiere on NBC. Fans lauded the show's excellent production value and wondered how the producers achieved such high-quality visuals on network television.
The talented cast also contributed to Chicago P.D.'s success, and it was expected to be a hit for years to come. However, Sophia Bush's departure after season four sent the project into a downward spiral.
Now, it may finally have been revealed why Bush decided to leave the lead role in the highly successful series.
In 2016, rumours circulated about Bush experiencing workplace abuse, but it wasn't until this year that the actress revealed the full story. As it turns out, her co-star Jason Beghe attempted to assault her in front of a room full of people, and no one intervened.
After the incident, Bush left the show and never looked back. However, she expressed anger over NBC and Beghe's attempts to present his actions as anger management issues rather than assault.
‘I don’t know what I’m supposed to do that my next employers rebranded sexual assault with witnesses as “anger management issues” in the press,’ Bush said on her podcast Drama Queens.
Fans of the actress are appalled that Beghe continues to work on Chicago P.D. while Bush is gone, arguing that it should have been the other way around.
Furthermore, many other actors abruptly left the show following Bush's exit, including fan-favourite Elias Koteas, who was unexpectedly written off after the fifth season.
Fans speculate that the numerous departures were due to the drama surrounding Bush, and the show has since lost its unique appeal, becoming just another police procedural.
Chicago P.D. Season 10 Episode 19 will arrive on NBC on 3 May 3 2023.
