Before Eleven, Before the Upside Down: Stranger Things Prequel The First Shadow Is Coming to Netflix
Missed it on stage? An official recording of Stranger Things: The First Shadow is finally coming to Netflix.
Stranger Things finally made the move fans have been asking for: the stage prequel that digs into Vecna is headed to Netflix. No flights, no scrambling for theater tickets, just the origin story a lot of people wanted in the first place.
What Netflix is doing
The plan is to debut a filmed version of the stage production, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, on the streaming service. The show is being professionally captured for streaming this week, and the recording will feature the production's principal cast.
- Louis McCartney as Henry Creel
- T.R. Knight as Victor Creel
- Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty Newby
- Alex Breaux as Dr. Brenner
Why this matters
If you left the finale feeling like the show didn’t fully unpack how Henry Creel became Vecna, this is the missing chapter. The First Shadow has been the place to learn Henry’s tragic backstory, and now that deep dive will be watchable at home. There is no release date yet.
Quick refresher
Stranger Things is the supernatural thriller set in Hawkins, Indiana, mixing 80s pop-culture vibes with a big dose of Stephen King energy. It kicks off when a kid vanishes, his friends stumble into a conspiracy tied to a secretive lab, and a mysterious girl with telekinetic powers becomes their best shot at stopping what’s trying to swallow Hawkins whole.
More to come.
