Battlefield 6’s battle royale RedSec is reportedly landing October 28, 2025 — but solo players may be benched at launch. A reliable leak says the free-to-play mode will open with Duos and Squads only.

Battlefield 6 is about to jump into the battle royale pool, but if you were planning to lone-wolf it on day one, you might want to text a friend. The game’s rumored BR mode, RedSec, is reportedly dropping October 28, 2025 as a free-to-play add-on to BF6, and at launch it will only support Duos and Squads. No Solos out of the gate.

No Solos (at first), and here is why

The info comes from industry regular ModernWarzone, who shared the details on October 25. RedSec’s launch playlist is reportedly just two options: Duos (2 players) and Squads (4 players). With a 100-player cap, that means either 50 teams of two or 25 teams of four in a match.

"solos is not currently planned to be available at launch."

Before the pitchforks come out: trios and solos are not off the table forever. The plan, per the leak, is to start simple and add more team sizes later. That is basically how Call of Duty: Warzone rolled out in 2020, launching with trios only and expanding once the servers survived the stampede. ModernWarzone also backed the approach, saying EA and Battlefield Studios want to watch engagement, matchmaking stability, and early balance before complicating the playlist. And given Battlefield’s big sandbox — destructible buildings, vehicles, wide-open sightlines — they want team play to set the tone at launch. Solos too early could mess with that scale.

What you actually get on day one

  • Release: October 28, 2025, lining up with Battlefield 6 Season 1. RedSec is free-to-play.
  • Team sizes: Duos (2) and Squads (4) only at launch. No Solos or Trios on day one.
  • Player count: 100 per match. That is 50 duo teams or 25 squad teams.
  • Map: Large, modern, fully destructible, with that classic Battlefield feel from the base game.
  • Sandbox: Destructible environments, vehicle combat, and big open zones that reward coordination.
  • Drop-in and loot: Deploy via parachutes or helicopters, start with a basic kit, and scavenge for weapons and armor.
  • Tech upgrades: Realistic lighting improvements and a hard-edged zone mechanic.
  • The twist: Step outside RedSec’s shrinking play area and you reportedly die instantly — no gas masks, no slow tick damage. Move smart or get erased.
  • Why only two playlists? Faster matchmaking, cleaner balance, and fewer launch-day headaches. Once the data looks good, more modes can follow.

Will solos show up later?

Sounds likely. The leak specifically mentions additional team sizes, including solos and trios, arriving post-launch once things settle. ModernWarzone even joked they spent months pestering Warzone to add duos back in the day — and Warzone turned out fine. So yeah, it is annoying if you fly solo, but this is a pretty standard way to roll out a BR in 2025.

Bottom line: RedSec aims to nail the Battlefield vibe from minute one — big squads, big toys, big destruction — and then layer in the rest. If you are going in at launch, bring a buddy or three.
