Michael Caine is the latest A-lister to clone his voice, signing with ElevenLabs to recreate and license it through the new Iconic Voice Marketplace as big-name talent races into generative audio.

Michael Caine is officially letting AI borrow his voice. The 'Batman Begins' legend has signed on with ElevenLabs to clone and license his vocals through the company’s newly launched Iconic Voice Marketplace. Yes, that means brands and creators will be able to book Caine’s voice for approved projects, and you’ll even be able to have him read to you in an app.

What Caine actually signed up for

ElevenLabs says Caine recorded an advert for the marketplace launch, and his voice is headed to the ElevenReader app, where it can narrate books, articles, and PDFs. The marketplace itself is set up for both editorial and commercial use: companies and creators can request access to specific voices, and, if a deal is struck, ElevenLabs delivers the licensed AI recreation.

"For years, I've lent my voice to stories that moved people, tales of courage, of wit, of the human spirit. Now, I'm helping others find theirs. With ElevenLabs, we can preserve and share voices, not just mine, but anyone's."

"ElevenLabs is at the very forefront of technology, using innovation not to replace humanity, but to celebrate it."

How this works (and why it is a little eyebrow-raising)

ElevenLabs bills the Iconic Voice Marketplace as a performer-first setup. Translation: the actual licensing deals are made off-platform between the company and the talent (or their estates), and once the paperwork is done, the AI clone is turned on for approved use. That off-platform detail matters, especially since the company recently settled a lawsuit from actors Karissa Vacker and Mark Boyett, who accused ElevenLabs of misappropriating their voices. So, there is history here.

Who is already in the marketplace

The roster mixes living artists with historical and deceased figures — which is impressive tech and, depending on your taste, a bit uncanny. ElevenLabs says the marketplace includes more than 25 voices. Notable names they are touting:

  • Liza Minnelli
  • Art Garfunkel
  • John Wayne
  • Laurence Olivier
  • Judy Garland
  • Maya Angelou
  • Mark Twain
  • Amelia Earhart
  • Babe Ruth
  • Ty Cobb
  • Alan Turing
  • J. Robert Oppenheimer
  • Rocky Marciano
  • Richard Feynman
  • Lana Turner
  • Montgomery Clift

McConaughey is in the mix too

ElevenLabs also revealed that Matthew McConaughey has invested in the company. He is using the platform to expand his newsletter with a Spanish-language edition.

"Lyrics of Livin' is expanding with a Spanish language edition, allowing us to reach and connect with even more people."

The bigger picture

ElevenLabs was founded in 2022 by Piotr Dąbkowski and Mati Staniszewski. With Caine on board, a growing list of estates signing off, and a fresh investment from McConaughey, the company is pushing hard to make AI voice licensing feel normal — or at least inevitable. Whether that feels like celebration or creepiness probably depends on whose voice you are hearing and why.
