Barry & Peta Were Underscored on DWTS Latin Night, And Fans Aren't Having It
Fans are furious over the judges' decision.
Despite being one of the most-watched reality competitions currently on air, Dancing with the Stars appears to be increasingly disliked by fans with each new episode. It would appear that the blame lies primarily with the judges. The controversy began in Season 32 when the judges chose to eliminate Veep's Matt Walsh from the competition. He had arguably put forth more effort than some of the higher-scoring competitors, who, in comparison, had weaker dance performances.
The judges seem to have disregarded the significant backlash they received for their decision in the premiere episode, as they began to favor another popular contestant, Barry Williams, and his dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd.
Surprising Threat
The announcement of The Brady Bunch's Barry Williams joining DWTS Season 32 led fans to predict that the 69-year-old actor would be the first to be eliminated. However, the seasoned actor exceeded all expectations with his dynamic first dance with Peta, earning them a commendable 16 points.
After the initial episodes, the majority of fans grew fond of Barry, lauding his excellent sense of humor and admirable dancing skills. They were confident that he and Peta would rank highly following the judges' decisions in the second episode.
Judges Backstab Barry
Despite Barry and Peta's stellar performance to Tito Puente's Oye Como Va, they were unable to surpass their previous score, earning a mere 15 points.
Understandably, fans were outraged with the outcome, arguing that while Barry and Peta still have potential for improvement, they deserved at least 20 points. The judges' decision to award them a lower score was seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine the couple.
The reason behind this is unclear, but Peta's expletive response to the results (she called it bullshit) suggests that she, too, felt betrayed by the judges, a sentiment shared by the fans.
Dancing with the Stars Season 32 Episode 3 is set to premiere on October 10, 2023.
