The new season of Riverdale has turned things upside down for the gang, but what does that mean for the show's relationships?

The final Season 7 of Riverdale, which premiered on March 29, completely turned the story of the Riverdale High School gang upside down. The comet that failed to destroy the town in the previous season sent it back in time, and the gang found themselves attending high school in 1955.

What's more, only Jughead Jones has memories of their past (or future?) lives, and the rest of the main characters seem to be quite comfortable in their new 1950s setting.

And this is especially true for the show's main character, Archie Andrews, portrayed by KJ Apa, who feels extremely authentic in his role. The high school football player and musician is a bit naive, as well as loyal, caring, and kind, just like Archie Comics fans expect him to be.

In anticipation of next week's Episode 4, KJ Apa talked to Decider about his role, revealing that the Season 7 Archie is the character he should have been portraying all along and also sharing his thoughts on who might be Archie's endgame romantic partner.

As the characters find themselves in their new surprising circumstances, the question of who will be the endgame for Archie has become even more relevant and widely discussed. Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper, both attracted to the protagonist, are now joined by Cheryl Blossom, who had a sudden moment of sexual awakening on her date with Archie (despite being confused and struggling with her sexuality in general).

The previous episode ended with them making out and possibly having sex, which we'll find out about next week.

But as steamy as the scene was, Cheryl is unlikely to become a serious contender for Archie's heart. Riverdale fans want to know if Archie will end up with Veronica or Betty by the time the series finale airs in August. And it turns out KJ Apa has his own opinion about who his character's endgame should be.

'Archie and Betty are really such good friends that it's hard not to see them together for the rest of their lives,' the Riverdale star told Decider after some hesitation.

Well, many fans agree that Betty is a better match for Archie than Veronica, but we'll still have to wait for the season's finale to see if Barchie is really the show's endgame.

Episode 4 of Riverdale Season 7 airs on April 20, 2023.
