Avengers: Doomsday Star Claims It’s Bigger Than Stranger Things, Teases Doctor Doom’s Rise
David Harbour says Avengers: Doomsday will dwarf Stranger Things 5, teasing sky-high stakes, a scene-stealing new trio, and a powerhouse debut for Doctor Doom.
David Harbour is out here hyping Avengers: Doomsday like Marvel just unplugged the safety rails. While promoting DTF St. Louis of all things, the Stranger Things standout made the new Avengers movie sound massive, teased a scene-stealing Robert Downey Jr., and previewed a new trio dynamic that feels tailor-made to blow up group chats.
The scale: bigger than Stranger Things 5, apparently
Oh man, that movie is huge... I thought that Stranger Things 5 was big, but this is kind of the biggest thing I have ever done.
Harbour did not hedge. If he is putting Doomsday over his Hawkins-sized juggernaut, Marvel is swinging for the fences.
Keep an eye on Downey
I'm really excited for you to see what Downey is doing... He is really special.
Short version: expect Robert Downey Jr. to make noise. Sounds like the movie gives him at least a couple of the moments everyone will be talking about on the way out.
Red Guardian's new crew could be a crowd-pleaser
Harbour confirmed Alexei Shostakov gets meaningful time with Yelena Belova, then dropped the fun part: he is building a bond with Winter Soldier and U.S. Agent. He called it a brotherhood and a bromance, and even joked it plays like a love triangle. Translating that into Marvel-speak:
- Alexei and Yelena share substantive scenes
- Alexei, Bucky, and John Walker form a scrappy trio with easy chemistry
- The vibe leans playful and prickly, with Harbour teasing a love-triangle energy between the three
Harbour's track record, and when you can see it
Harbour broke big as Jim Hopper on Stranger Things, scoring Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. On the film side he has bounced from Black Widow to Hellboy to Gran Turismo, so he knows his way around a franchise playground. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to open in theaters worldwide December 18 this year.
If that Alexei–Bucky–Walker dynamic clicks like he says, Marvel might have its next oddball favorite baked right into the ensemble.
