How much Chris Evans will you get in Avengers: Doomsday? Director Anthony Russo sets expectations as the Russo Brothers’ MCU epic powers through post-production toward its theatrical run.

Marvel has its next Avengers movie deep into post, the Russos are back in the big chair, and the studio has been drip-feeding teasers like it is 2018 all over again. The headline today: Chris Evans is not just popping in. He is a pillar of this thing.

The Steve Rogers of it all

The first teaser made a point of revealing Evans back as Steve Rogers — a reveal that mattered because his name was conspicuously absent from the initial cast splash. Now, Anthony Russo is saying the quiet part out loud: Steve is central to Avengers: Doomsday.

'We have a special affinity with the character, we can’t see this narrative without his central role in it, basically. The special place he holds among the ensemble, he sort of retains that moving forward.'

Translation: the star-spangled anchor is back in the middle of the board. If you were wondering how that works alongside Anthony Mackie’s Cap, that is the point — the movie wants both.

What the teasers actually showed

There have been four so far. After Evans' return got the ball rolling, teaser two zeroed in on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, teaser three paraded a clutch of X-Men, and teaser four swung the spotlight to Letitia Wright’s Black Panther/Shuri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and a few other heavy hitters. Subtle? Not even a little. Effective? Absolutely.

The cast is stacked to the ceiling
