Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2: The Real Ages of the Cast
Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender is heating up as Netflix locks in returning heroes, unveils fresh faces, and—via TUDUM—drops a full cast breakdown that shows how each actor’s real age stacks up against their on-screen counterpart.
Netflix finally dropped the Season 2 cast lineup for its live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is a big roster, with some eyebrow-raising age math and a couple of surprise picks that fans are already debating. Here is who is back, who is new, and what all of this means for a season that is supposed to cover a ton of ground in not a lot of episodes.
Who is back for Season 2
Per Netflix (via Tudum), the main heroes and villains from Season 1 are returning, with their character ages versus their real-life ages as listed in the announcement:
Aang is 12 years old (canonically 112), played by Gordon Cormier, who is 16.
Katara is 14, played by Kiawentiio, who is 19.
Sokka is 15, played by Ian Ousley, who is 23.
Zuko is 16, played by Dallas Liu, who is 24.
Iroh is listed as around 50, played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, who is 53.
Princess Azula is 14, played by Elizabeth Yu, who is 23.
Fire Lord Ozai is described as in his 40s, played by Daniel Dae Kim, who is 57.
Ty Lee is 14, played by Momona Tamada, who is 19.
Mai is 15, played by Thalia Tran, who is 19.
New faces in Season 2
The Earth Kingdom era begins. Here are the newcomers, with the character age ranges Netflix provided alongside the actors' current ages:
Toph is 12, played by Miya Cech, who is 18.
Long Feng is late 40s, played by Chin Han, who is 56.
Professor Zei is 40s or 50s, played by Hoa Xuande, who is 37.
King Kuei is around 25, played by Justin Chien, who is 27.
Joo Dee is in her 20s, played by Amanda Zhou, who is 34.
Lady Beifong is listed as 82–86, played by Crystal Yu, who is 37. That age range is... a choice, so we will see how the show positions her.
The Boulder is in his 20s, played by Kelemete Misipeka, who is 54. Yes, that gap jumps off the page.
General Sung is late 30s to 50s, played by Lourdes Faberes, who is 50.
Amita has an unknown age listed, played by Rekha Sharma, who is 53.
Jeong Jeong is 61, played by Terry Chen, who is 50.
Lo and Li have unknown ages listed; Netflix names Dolly de Leon, who is 56. (In the animated series Lo and Li are the queen's veteran dancers, so expect that energy.)
Ursa is late 30s to early 40s, played by Lily Gao, who is 30.
Fei has an unknown age listed, played by Madison Hu, who is 23.
Avatar Yangchen is 155, played by Dichen Lachman, who is 43.
Not showing up until Season 3
Netflix also listed Jon Jon Briones as Piandao and Tantoo Cardinal as Hama. Both are slated for Season 3, not Season 2.
The age thing everyone is already talking about
It has only been a little over a year since Season 1, but real-life growth spurts are real, and you can see them in the returning cast. Gordon Cormier in particular looks older in the Season 2 materials making the rounds, which has sparked the usual debate about whether stories that take place over roughly a single in-universe year are a better fit for animation when your leads are kids. Live-action does not get to pause puberty, and maintaining that one-year timeline across multiple seasons is tough, no matter how you stage it.
When Season 2 arrives (and what to expect)
Netflix says Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 will premiere in 2026. No exact date yet, but mid-2026 is a reasonable guess. The show has already been renewed through Season 3 to finish the story, so expect the adaptation to keep moving fast.
Story-wise, Season 2 should lean harder into the war and the Earth Kingdom arc: Aang tackling some brutal earthbending training, Sokka growing into a real leader, Katara sharpening her waterbending, and a darker overall tone as the stakes rise. With only eight episodes to cover a lot of Book Two: Earth, do not be surprised if the show compresses or remixes some beats to fit the runtime.
Where to watch
It is a Netflix exclusive. You will need an active Netflix subscription, and there are no plans announced for other platforms. Season 1 is streaming there now if you need a refresher before the next round hits.
