Avatar: Fire and Ash is closing in on release, and emotions are already spilling over—Jack Champion posted a tear-streaked shot with co-star Trinity Bliss on Instagram, hinting that Pandora’s next chapter is set to hit hard.

Well, this is one way to hype a movie: cry about it. Jack Champion and Trinity Bliss just watched Avatar: Fire and Ash and immediately posted a tear-streaked selfie. Not subtle, but effective.

The crying selfie that kicked it off

Champion shared a photo on Instagram (via @jackchampion) of himself and Bliss looking like they had both just sobbed through a double feature. Red, puffy eyes, swollen noses, splotchy cheeks — the whole post-weep look — but smiling through it.

'Our faces after watching Avatar: Fire and Ash for the first time. Can’t wait to share this film with the world Dec. 19 💙'

So yeah, the kids were moved. Champion is 21 and plays Miles 'Spider' Socorro. Bliss is 16 and plays Tuktirey (Tuk). And their reactions were enough to send the fandom straight into panic/guess mode.

Fans immediately started theory-crafting

On X, the replies swung from 'lol they’re being dramatic' to 'oh no, someone definitely dies.' The most common target: Jake Sully. A bunch of people are convinced he’s a goner, with some predicting Lo'ak steps up to carry the franchise if that happens. Others swore they’ll walk out if Jake dies. And a few simply begged the movie to be kinder than it looks. Nothing official, obviously — just the internet doing what the internet does.

Cameron already warned everyone this one hurts

None of this is out of nowhere. Back in February, James Cameron told Stuff that Fire and Ash is the most emotional Avatar yet. He said he’s shown it to a small group, and the response has been strong:

'I’ve shown it to a few selected people and the feedback has been it’s definitely the most emotional and maybe the best of the three so far. We’ll find out, you know, but I feel pretty good about it. And the work is exceptional from the actors. It’s pretty heart-wrenching in a good way.'

Combine that with a cast selfie that looks like the aftermath of a Pixar marathon, and you can see why everyone’s on edge.

What we actually know right now

  • Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third Avatar film, coming to theaters December 19, 2025.
  • Jack Champion (Spider) and Trinity Bliss (Tuk) watched it and cried enough to document it.
  • Cameron says it’s the series’ most emotional chapter so far and could be the best of the three.
  • Fans are bracing for a major character death, with Jake Sully at the top of the speculation list; some think Lo'ak could take the lead after.
  • None of that is confirmed — just strong vibes and a very puffy-eyed teaser from the cast.

Bottom line: expect a heavy one. Whether those tears were happy, sad, or some nasty combo of both, the message is clear — bring tissues.
