Austin Butler’s Gritty R-Rated Crime Thriller Rockets Into Netflix Top 10
Austin Butler’s R-rated crime thriller Caught Stealing is off to a hot start on Netflix, breaking into the U.S. Top 10 at No. 7 just after its streaming debut.
Austin Butler has a new movie on Netflix, and it did not sneak in quietly. The R-rated crime thriller Caught Stealing hit the service and immediately muscled its way into the U.S. Top 10. Not bad for a story that starts with a simple cat-sitting favor.
Where it landed on Netflix
Netflix updated its U.S. Top 10 Movies list for the first week of December, and Caught Stealing grabbed the No. 7 spot. That jump comes right after its U.S. streaming launch on November 29, following a theatrical run that started August 29, 2025. Translation: it is picking up steam now that it is easier to find.
What the movie is
It is based on Charlie Huston’s 2004 crime novel and clocks in at a tight 1 hour 47 minutes. Butler plays Hank Thompson, a former high school baseball standout whose big-league dreams died with an injury. These days he is bartending in New York City and living a low-drama life with his girlfriend, Yvonne. Then his neighbor, Russ, asks him to keep an eye on his apartment and look after his cat. That low-stakes errand turns into a high-velocity mess when Hank ends up on the radar of some very pushy gangsters. From there, it is survival mode: duck, weave, and try to get out in one piece.
